"This is the second year I have participated in the Strides for Hope 5K. Last year's experience was so rewarding that I was thrilled to hear about our team at Bramhall + Hitchen wanted to register for this year's event in San Francisco. I lost my mom to cancer. At that time, I was not aware of the Cancer Support Community and all the services it had to offer both the patient and their family. I can only imagine how she would have benefited from such a wonderful organization and all of its programs. I am now a proud member of the Board of Directors and committed to helping this organization provide services free of charge to all those affected by this horrible disease. I hope you will join me by offering your support and making a donation to push me over the finish line. Thank you."

"This is my 1st Strides for Hope race. I recently and unexpectedly lost my mom, Georgette, to lung cancer 18 days after diagnosis. I walk to honor her memory. She was not only the most amazing and inspiring person in my lfe, but whe was also my best friend. I had a "Wellness Moment" and found myself offered an incredible job raising money for The Cancer Support Community Delaware here in Kent County. My heart belongs here and I feel my Mom every day that I go to work. Your donation will keep my Mom's memory alive and continue to help this organization offer programs free of charge to anyone touched by cancer! Thank you for your support!"

"This will be my third Strides for Hope and many people ask why do I do it? I do it for several reasons…
  • I have been active with the Cancer Support Community as a member of the board of directors for over six years.
  • In memory of my mother who passed from colon cancer
  • In memory of my grandfather who passed from bone cancer
  • In memory of my cousin who passed from prostate cancer
  • For my dad who is a survivor of prostate cancer.
Notable things about Cancer Support Community Delaware
  • CSCDE provides statewide cancer support programs
  • All programs are led by licensed mental health professionals
  • All services are free of charge
  • Money raised in Delaware stays in Delaware!
The monies raised by myself and my fellow Strides participants provide for free programs that benefit individuals with cancer, cancer survivors, caregivers and their families. So please help me reach my goal by clicking here and supporting me in this year’s Strides For Hope. Your donation is tax deductible. Thank you."

"This is my fourth year on the Strides for Hope Team. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in January 2010. The Cancer Support Community was a godsend to me, and I attended support groups regularly. I did my first half marathon in December 2010 in Las Vegas. I walked with the names of more than 70 people on my shirt who were either going through or had lost their battle with cancer. In April 2011 I lost my Mom to Lung cancer and CSC was there to help me deal with the loss. Unfortunately every year I add more names to my shirt. I am proud to say I am a board member and a member of the Kent County Advisory Committee. Please help me make sure that others can get the wonderful programs and education that CSC provides everyday free of charge. Thank you!"

"2012 was my first year participting in the Strides for Hope. Over the past year I have grown such a bond with the Cancer Support Community; when they approached me about participating in the race again this year I said YES before they even finished asking the question. I have seen so many lives negatively affected from this terrible disease but I have also seen so many people benefit from the assistance of the Cancer Support Community. I am so proud to be a part of this and I will continue to do so until I am no longer physically able. I RUN FOR THOSE THAT ARE FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES!!!!!!"

"I am extremely excited to be part of the Strides for Hope 1/2 Marathon team again for a second year. I had such a moving experience last year I decided I wanted to challenge myself again this year. Cancer has touched all of our lives and I feel this is a wonderful way to give back to everyone I have loved and lost as well as to all of the survivors and friends and family fighting this horrible disease. The Cancer Support Community Delaware is a wonderful cause to donate to because they provide services to Delawareans free of charge that not ony benefit people with cancer it also helps their families cope and it helps individuals who have beat cancer! No matter how big or how small please consider helping me in donating to this wonderful cause and remember your deduction is always tax deductible. Lets beat cancer together one donation at a time! Thank you everyone!!!!!"

"This is the second year I have participated in the Strides for Hope 5K. Last year's race in Disney was so rewarding that I couldn't wait to sign up our team again this year. Cancer has affected so many people in my life. All of the training and fundraising will be worth it if I can help even one cancer patient or their family find hope and help. Hope and help are what the Cancer Support Community Delaware give to those affected with this horrible disease as well as their loved ones. I am so proud to be affiliated with such a wonderful and wothwhile organization."

"In 2004, I participated in the national Strides for Hope Marathon in Vancouver, B.C. when my sister had been diagnosed with uterine cancer. It was one of the most inspiring experiences of my lfe-I trained for months to walk for 13.1 miles with cancer-affected people from all over the country, but more importantly I was able to raise almost $3,000 for the Cancer Support Community Delaware to provide free support services for Delawareans with cancer. I am grateful to say that my sister is doing well today. My close friend, Deborah Welch, was diagnosed in 2009 with soft tissue sarcoma. Deborah was on the Board of the CSCD and we participated in the walk together. Deborah was an inspiration to me and she fought the disease with everything she had. Unfortunately she passed away on May 24, 2011. This year, at age 62, I am determined to complete the Strides for Hope 1/2 Marathon once again. Our team from Delaware, representing all three counties, will participate in this event. I am participating to represent my sister, my friend Deborah, and my cousin Ruth Hollenbeck, along with other loved ones and friends who have been affected by this terrible disease. Most importantly, through this event, I am participating to raise OVER $3,000 to provide free support services to Delawareans with cancer through the Cancer Support Community Delaware. I truly appreciate any donation you can give to help me reach my goal! All gifts are 100% tax deductible. "

"You ask why I am running 13.1 miles, it's the least I can do. I am doing it for the cure. Cancer has become an epidemic affecting all of us directly or indirectly. I want to be part of the change. We need to work together to find a way to lessen the threat of the "Big C". This year three friends on my tennis team have been directly affected by cancer. I am running in honor of their fight against cancer. I am running in honor of all those who have battled cancer and all those who have stood along side to be the support through the battle. Thank you."

"I have been involved with the Cancer Support Community Delaware since 2005 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It's a good feeling meeting and talking with other survivors. I think the cooking classes are awesome! Since my diagnosis I have come to believe that breast cancer survivors cherish their life to the fullest. This will be my first year participating in the Strides for Hope 5K. I want to do this for several reasons: 1. In Memory of my Dad who passed away as a result of bone cancer. 2. In Memory of my Grandfather who passed away as a result of liver cancer. 3. In Memory of my best friends Mother. 4. My best friends cancer diagnosis. and of course, 5. For myself as a cancer survivor. And finally I find it fulfilling to be of help to the Cancer Support Community. Thank you!"

"This will be my second year participating in the Strides for Hope 5K. I am so excited to be a part of this again with my team Bramhall + Hitchen. Last year was my first year doing Strides for Hope. I didn't have to think twice, signing up again this year. Cancer touches and affects almost everyone in some way. I know people who have died from cancer, battling cancer, and who have survived cancer. I am running for each and every person that cancer affected. I am so proud to be doing this and to be affiliated with such a great organization as The Cancer Support Community. Cancer is so limited..... It cannot cripple love. It cannot shatter hope. It cannot corrode faith. It cannot eat away peace. It cannot destroy confidence. It cannot kill friendship. It cannot shut out memories. It cannot silence courage. It cannot reduce eternal life. It cannot quench the Spirit. Author Unknow. Thank you."

"For those of you who know me, you know that I have participated in many races here and around the country for "a cause." Well, this time I am asking you to help me with a very important cause, Cancer Support Community Delaware.

As President and CEO of this wonderful organization, I will be running in the Half Moon Bay Marathon on September 28th. This endeavor is an important fund raising event for Cancer Support Community and funds raised help to provide the needed services to those affected by cancer. This also includes families and caregivers. Having a diagnosis of cancer affects the entire family. Our psycho-social services are offered free- of -charge at our facilities in each county and at outreach settings.

I invite you to help me to help the many people within Delaware who are or who will be using Cancer Support Community services to overcome the impact of cancer. I appreciate your financial support that will push me toward the finish line. Please go to my web location and pledge your support and while there review the services we offer. Better yet, please go to the web link and sign up to participate in the run/walk yourself!

People from all backgrounds come to Cancer Support Community. Your support will allow us to continue to help these friends, neighbors, or families. We are all affected by cancer in some capacity."

"After being on the Board of Directors of the Cancer Support Community Delaware (CSCDE) for several years, I decided to put my walking shoes on and join the Strides for Hope Team. My experiences with cancer have been as a wife and mother. My first husband Mike died of colon cancer and son Matt was successful with 30 months of chemo at age 13 from Non-hodgkin's Lymphoma. CSCDE offers an environment where a person with cancer and their families can open up to others that either have or have had cancer. You can let your guard down and cry with grief or laugh with relief in a safe environment. It helps you cope and keep going. I am passionate about the Cancer Support Community and their mission to help everyone who is riding the emotional rollercoaster of cancer know they are not alone. I am doing this run (walk) in memory of Mike, in honor of Matt and our Cancer Support Community family. I will wear a ribbon for you or your loved ones as well. Please support me with your donation to keep our services free at CSCDE. Thank you and your support is appreciated. "

""Rich and I are both excited to run our first 1/2 Marathon to benefit the Cancer Support Community DE in Half Moon Bay, CA on September 29th. We feel strongly that counseling, educational and exercise services provided to cancer patients and their families are necessary in alleviating some of the stress and hardship that is experienced when a devastating illness like cancer is diagnosed. CSCD offers these services without cost to patients and families at a time when finances can often be strained. Both of us have unfortunately been affected by cancer within our immediate families. Both of our mothers were diagnosed with breast cancer. Rich's dad had cancer of the neck region and my Dad is currently fighting stage 4 metastatic pancreas cancer, diagnosed in February of 2013. My father's positive outlook, strength and bravery throughout numerous treatments is a testament to the importance of emotional support. We feel highly driven to raise money to benefit those who are fighting or have fought this terrible disease. All of your gifts are 100% tax deductible and will directly benefit Sussex County, DE residents. We ask that you consider giving generously to this necessary community non-profit organization, but every dollar amount matters!!! Thank you very much for your support!!! Visit cancersupportdelaware.org for class schedules or other ways that you can help!" "

"My sister Katrina is my inspiration to run in my 3rd half marathon with Strides for Hope Marathon Team. She is a survivor of kidney cancer. The one place I thought to help me was Cancer Support Community. I needed Hope. I have been working for Cancer Support Community for 3 years. Over the 3 years I have met some amazing people who have been touched by cancer. People attend programs at Cancer Support Community because it is a place where they can find the strength and hope to get through the emotional side of cancer. All the programs are facilitated by trained and licensed facilitators. Cancer Support Community offers these programs statewide free of charge. This is the reason why I am dedicated to raise awareness and money to keep offering these services available for all diagnosed with cancer and their caretakers. I am asking you to make a donation to provide these services at no cost for participants. I thank you in advance. All money raised in Delaware stay in Delaware. I wish you all good health."

"Another year has gone by and more people have told me they have been diagnosed with cancer. This will be my second run with the Cancer Support Community and Bramhall + Hitchen. I am thrilled and privileged to run to support the people that bravely defeated or are defeating this nasty disease. This year I am reminded of how, in an instant, someone's life can change and how much it can effect their family. My friend Michelle, who's daughter is 4, was diagnosed with breast cancer and bravely fought and defeated it! I will be running in her honor as well as everyone else that touches my life, every day and fights this brave battle. Please help me to continue to support the people touched by cancer."

"IT'S CANCER!.....When my mom called I could tell that something was wrong. It was my Dad. He was diagnosed with Prostate cancer. Hearing these words made my whole body freeze and my heart race. As Director of The Cancer Support Community Kent County, I see individuals and families that are touched by cancer on a daily basis, you'd think I would be able to handle it. I don't think it was until then that I truly felt the importance of my job. I am committed to and passionate about the Cancer Support Community. In difficult times we all need a place of support and hope. The Cancer Support Community is that place for thousands of people living with cancer and their loved ones. So, on behalf of all those incredible people who inspire me and share their stories, I am asking you to make a donation so that we can continue to provide services at no cost to participants. Thank you."
