"I am so pleased to be able to participate in this year's Strides for Hope Marathon Team, after an hiatus of several years. I have participated in multiple Strides teams in the past, and hope my enthusiasm (and knees) carry me through! As most of us on the Strides team, I am walking in recognition of several family members who have, or had cancer. My father was diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer and was a survivor, thanks to early intervention. My cousin was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer several years ago, is a survivor and an active contributor back to the community. We all know how devastating a diagnosis of cancer can be on the individual as well as the family. Thankfully, there are resources available such as the Cancer Support Community, which are free of charge, to enable individuals and their families to avail themselves of the resources and get the help and guidance they need. I am proud to be able to represent Delaware's Cancer Support Community at the Atlantic City Half-Marathon, and thank you in advance for your support and best wishes.""

"As a Cancer Survivor I know first hand the amazing work the Cancer Support Community DE does. I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in January 2010 and attended a support group and other programs at CSC in Dover, DE. Then in April 2011 I lost my Mom to Lung Cancer and CSCDE was there for me again as a family member/care giver. This is my 5th year participating in Strides for Hope. I am honored to also be on the Board of Directors and the Kent County Advisory Committee for CSCDE. Please click the link and make a donation so we can keep providing programs and services free of charge to cancer patients, families and care givers here in Delaware. Thank you for your support."

"I can't believe it's been 4 years since my last Strides for Hope Marathon! Life got crazy as it sometimes does. Imagine adding cancer into the mix! It happens every day to those we know and love and thankfully the Cancer Support Community is right here - in Delaware - to offer resources and hope to those batteling this dreaded disease and their families who support them. I am proud once again to represent the Cancer Support Community and run in the Atlantic City Half Marathon. I run in honor of those who've lost the battle and with hope that some day we will find a cure. Thank you for your donation."

"One of every two men and one of every three women will hear these three dreadful words within their lifetime. "You have cancer!" Cindy Dwyer has heard these words...again. Cindy is a Co-Founder of the Cancer Support Community Delaware. She wanted to have a place here in Delaware where people could go for emotional support, education and hope. She also has the courage and strength that I admire. Courage is the ability to have people come together and see her vision of hope. Strength is to fight this battle called cancer. I am participating in the Atlantic City Half-Marathon in honor of Cindy, and others, to show them I have the courage and strength to complete this run and to raise awareness of this wonderful organization. I am asking you to make a donation so these services can be provided at no cost for our participants. You can make a donation by clicking the donation button below. Thank you for your help in our efforts to support the Cancer Support Community as a place of education and hope for people with cancer."

"YOU HAVE CANCER!..... Hearing these words made my whole body freeze and my heart race. It was my mom, she had been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. As Director of the Cancer Support Community, Kent County, I see individuals and families that are touched by cancer on a daily basis. It's not till you hear those words yourself that you are truly able to understand the fear that follows those three little words. That is why I am committed to and passionate about the Cancer Support Community. In difficult times we all need a place of support and hope. The Cancer Support Community is that place for thousands of people living with cancer and their loved ones. So, on behalf of all those incredible people who inspire me each day I am asking you to make a donation towards my Strides for Hope run in October so that CSC can continue our support services to all of these individuals at no cost. Thank you!"

"This has been a year when both Jessica and I have learned of friends of the family who are fighting cancer. Our friend Cindy Dwyer is a good friend and one very special lady! There is also Carol, who has been a friend of mine for many years, too many to count! Both of these special women have a positive attitude and are wagging their fight with the help of family and friends. Last month I lost a friend Shirley who was a friend since my early days in banking, and 11 years ago I lost my father to colon cancer. I am a founding member of The Cancer Support Community DE and Jessica has been a volunteer for us for over 19 years! She along with her sister Amy have always believed in this wonderful organization, so we, Jessica and I are doing Strides in Atlantic City. Amy paced me when I did my last 1/2 Marathon in 2008, now it is Jessica's turn! I hope you can support us and help us raise dollars and awareness for this wonderful organization. We both walk in memory and honor of family and friends. Thank you everyone!"

Mic & Aunt Doreen Team
Dover, DE,
"Last year, my Strides for Hope Marathon in Half Moon Bay was such an amazing and life changing experience. I decided to not just participate again this year, but to recruit my Aunt Doreen. We both belong to a club that no one actively seeks out. We both lost our Mom's to cancer. I was 12 when my Grandmother, Rose, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and just three years ago my Mom, Georgette, was diagnosed with lung cancer. It happened 30 years apart, but my Aunt Doreen and I did the same exact thing. We stood by their side and were our Mom's caregivers. Cancer affects the entire family and the Cancer Support Community offers so many wonderful resources to families touched by this disease. Please support this great organization with a donation to our Strides for Hope Team and help us reach our goal. I promise that I will cross the finish line right next to my Aunt Doreen and we will make both our Moms proud. Thank you! "
