Strides for Hope Rock 'n' Roll Marathon
San Antonio, Texas November 16, 2008

Our Strides for Hope Team is a group of men and women of all ages committed to reaching a personal fitness goal while raising money for The Wellness Community-Delaware. Our next event is the Strides for Hope Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Antonio, Texas, on November 16, 2008. Each team member has committed to raising $2,800 for The Wellness Community, which will go to support free programs for people diagnosed with cancer.

If you would like to donate toward an individual's personal goal, you may also indicate if you would like that person to walk or run in honor or memory of a loved one touched by cancer. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible. Before you make a donation, you will be asked to register for this site and then you will be able to pull up the individual's donation page.

If you wish to mail a check to support a team member, please download a contribution form and mail it, along with the check, to the address at the bottom of the form. ""It's impossible to not know someone touched by cancer. It is a non-discriminate disease and brings us face to face with our mortality. What has touched me so deeply in my involvement with this exceptional organization is the way the Wellness Community helps survivors and those closest embrace life. By providing services and programs, 100% free of charge, the Wellness Community supports, empowers and inspires...an incredibly strong arsenal in the battle against cancer. I feel privileged to participate in this fundraiser and will be running for those I know who have lost their battle, those living who are either struggling or are thankfully in remission AND those who have yet to be diagnosed. Please give as generously as you are able." "

"Immediately upon receiving the email announcement about the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon I knew this was for me! I’m an ovarian cancer survivor as a result of early detection. And, I’m doing this in memory of a dear aunt who was an example of fitness discipline, while battling colon cancer, to our family and her friends. Donating and raising funds for Strides of Hope is absolutely the right thing to do. Please join me in supporting this great effort. Everyone wins!"

"As a three time breast cancer survivor, here's what I've learned so far... Be your own best advocate; come out swinging; walk a mile in your doctors' shoes; bald is beautiful; let people help you; share your feelings; pray; when you're down, make a gratitude list; sing loudly; smile at someone for no reason; stop to smell the roses; you can survive the emotional rollercoaster; choose your battles; ask lots of questions; laughter is the best medicine; miracles do happen; learn one new thing each day; and I am a miracle."

"Cancer has been deadly in my family. My mother (Lung Cancer). Her sister. (Lung Cancer) Her mother. (Breast Cancer and Lung Cancer). Her Father (Colon Cancer). All have died from this insidious disease. Cancer has taken too many unbelievable people from this earth. Their talents and the touches they would have had on others have disappeared from the face of the future. Who knows what impact they would have, could have had? Organizations like The Wellness Community make life a little more bearable not only to those suffering from this disease but each family member as well. Walki ng in San Antonio is a great way to pay it forward since 100% of the proceeds will support these families. Thank you for any support you can provide to help this incredible organization!"

Cecilia Keeton

"I remember the phone call like it was yesterday. But it was 5 years ago. My beautiful daughter, Julia said, "Mom,it is cancer." I had company in my kitchen. Everyone happy with the joys of life, and I have just heard my daughter has cancer. I now understand the pain others have suffered knowing their precious daughter is hurting and knowing you have to be there for them even though it would be easier to run and hide. The Wellness Community has enabled us to appreciate what others are going through. Thank you for all that Wellness Community has done for us, and for giving me the opportunity to give back. We are all survivors. (Picture: Cecilia left, with daughter Julia Chesser.)"

"I am running for my cousin Valerie Oakes, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer, and for all the other people whose lives have been touched by cancer. 13 miles will be very hard for me, as my longest run tops out at about 5 miles! However, 13 miles is nothing compared to Valerie having to endure chemo and loss of her hair, so I will be thinking of her when I need to keep my feet going. I am asking that you please help me and the Wellness Community meet our fundraising goals by donating whatever you can."
